Developing Fiji’s Roadmap For Sustainable Growth

Reserve Bank of Fiji on Friday gathered around 50 executives from the international, regional and domestic financial institutions at the Holiday Inn Suva.

This is in a bid to properly construct Fiji’s roadmap to a sustainable financial system.

Reserve Bank Acting Governor Ariff Ali said the workshop on Sustainable Finance Initiatives was to create awareness on sustainable finance to generate discussions amongst one another.

It was also to discuss the financial sectors’ possible response to financing needs; and to lay the foundations of Fiji’s roadmap to a sustainable financial system.

International Finance Corporation deputy treasurer (Singapore) Andrew Cross echoed the importance of the workshop.

“Fiji like many of the other Small Island Developing States has seen firsthand effects of climate change and with the increased frequency of natural disasters, the adaptation challenges continues to rise,” said Mr Cross.

Although Fiji’s climate adaptation grant and public funding has been the primary source to date, Mr Cross says the reality is the longevity of sustainable development is a crucial role for private sectors and financial systems.

Enabling regulation and adopting best practices becomes fundamental in building a strong, sound and responsible financial system that underpins inclusive and sustainable economic growth, he added.
