More Children Join Surfing Series

Last Saturday, the beach at Natadola exploded with activity as the first round of the Rip Curl Micro Grommet Series kicked-off. Children as young as five-years-old through to 14 competed in the Under-10s, U12 and U14. That is for both- boys and girls.
Last year’s U14 champions, John Vasea and Kiesha Wakeham, were on hand to defend their titles. Keisha was hard pressed by her sister Kayla but managed to hold a narrow lead. John was in great form as was nine-year- old Darcy Dwyer who managed to equal his points.
With the depth of talent constantly improving in all divisions all the competitors will have to be on their game to claim their respective title. The top five surfers in each division will now contest the final round to be crowned the champion.
FAMILY DAY
Alongside the surfing was the free family fun day. Fun beach activities like beach volleyball, beach soccer, environmental activities and surf safety kept the large crowd happy and busy.
Qualified staff members for each activity were on hand to guide each of the fun activities.
JUNIOR SURFERS
The Fiji Junior Surfing team received a big boost through some great financial support from the Fiji National Sports Commission, Latham Constructions, Utopian Cosmetics, Heritage, South Seas Agencies, NRW Macallan, Fiji Surf Co and shaper Nick Tansey as the the team were able to get new custom surfboards designed for Japan
Kalani, Api Camoro and Kiesha Wakeham have also been fitted out with a complete uniform courtesy of Hitesh at Cloudbreak clothing. The team will leave on September 19 for Hyuga Beach, Japan with competition finishing on October 1st.
All members of the team have responded well to training and FSA is confident that we have a strong representation for the ISA World Junior Titles. Go Fiji Go!
