Alleged Brothel Operator Has Case To Answer

Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage has ruled that there is a case to answer for a woman charged with two counts each of operating a brothel.
Gita Mani appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
Mr Liyanage said: “The witnesses have given sufficient evidence that the accused managed a brothel. This is not the stage at all to evaluate the credibility of the witnesses and to testify the weight of the discrepancies..”
“This court is of the opinion that the prosecution has made out a case that sufficiently requires making a defence by the accused.”
It was further stated by Mr Liyanage that according to the defence, women who worked there were not sex workers but have decided to do sex.
Mr Liyanage then stated that according to the prosecution witnesses they provided various sexual gratifications for men for money at a place called Fairy Massage Parlour. After having a massage or without a massage the visitors demanded extra meaning other sexual activities.
“The witnesses said that apart from other services, they had sexual activities with men for money at that place,” said Mr Liyanage.
It is alleged that between March 1, 2009 and Feb 19, 2011, Mani was managing a brothel called Fairy Massage Parlour.
The case has been adjourned to November 17, to set a trial date.
