Outspoken SODELPA member of Parliament Niko Nawaikula was in Lautoka yesterday in what he said was a show of support for men and women charged with sedition currently standing trial at the Lautoka High Court.

Posing for a photo at the Lautoka High Court, Mr Nawaikula, a lawyer stated on his Facebook page that his presence was to stand in solidarity with the 15 who face charges.

“I’m here to show my moral support.

“There were others who have been here visiting. And there is one especially, Adi Cuvu Gavidi Atama who is here every day to encourage composure and give her support and show concern for their welfare (sic),” he wrote.

SODELPA general secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi did not respond to questions emailed to her whether Mr Nawaikula was representing SODELPA and whether his presence in Lautoka was a show of support by the political party for the accused persons or his personal support.

In the same post, Mr Nawaikula went on to give his understanding of the law and of the charge of sedition.
