Every year the World Sevens Series is getting better, says Sir Gordon Tietjens.

The Samoan 7s coach made the comment at the annual Reddy Group employee awards night at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi on Wednesday.

“With 7s rugby now an Olympic sport, it has grown as more nations want to compete in the World Sevens Series,” he said.

“Even China wants to be involved and the series is getting better and tougher.”

Samoan 7s

“I got some new players in the Samoan team and I’m hoping to take them to where they were few years ago.

New Zealand 7s

“New Zealand did not have a particular good outing last season.

“I have done my share there and have my own view on why I did not perform particularly well.

“A big part of 7s rugby is all about the selection of the right set of players that you need for your game.

“My best achievement with NZ is when we were never out of the Cup competition in the series.”
