Sat Narayan of Coqeloa is the oldest player taking part in the nine-day 2017 Carpenters Finance Labasa Sanatan Tournament which ends at Subrail Park tomorrow.

“Narayan, 54, has been participating in this tournament since it began in 1985,” tournament chairman Mor Singh said.

“Every year we give out the award for the oldest player as a way to show our appreciation.”

Narayan, a vendor at Labasa market, loves playing football.

“I am so surprised to be selected for this award,” Narayan said.

“I would like to thank the organisers for recognising my participation and contribution over the years.

“I have seen lot of improvements and developments and I hope the organisers continue to have this tournament in a bigger way.”

Meanwhile, Singh confirmed four teams have qualified for the knockout stages. They are Urata, Northern Bullet, Vunivau and Wailevu Ganesh.

The remaining 12 teams will be confirmed after completion of the pool games.
