Winner of 2017 Vodafone Gold n Water Carnival Miss Vatukoula Gold Mine Limited, Conie Matawalu dedicated her win to her family, school community and friends.

Ms Matawalu was crowned the carnival queen at the crowning night at Garvey Park, Vatukoula on Saturday night.

“I thank everyone from school for their support. I also thank my family members for their immense support,” the Nilsen College Year 13 student said.

Ms Matawalu said she was very excited and was looking forward to representing Tavua at the Miss Fiji Pageant later this year.

“I am ready to take part in the upcoming Miss Fiji Pageant and count myself lucky to be given the task to represent the beautiful people of my town,” she said.

Her mother, Mrs Aralai Ratuniwai, 39, said that she was happy with her daughter’s achievement.

“She has made our family and community proud and I am confident that she will do well at this year’s Miss Fiji Pageant,” Ms Ratuniwai said.
