SODELPA Opposition Member, Viliame Gavoka, in response to the President’s address last week, highlighted that the President had said the 2013 Constitution had no ambiguity all.

Mr Gavoka said the iTaukei people knew that too well as it (the Constitution) had deliberately set out to weaken a people, like the iTaukei.

The President, Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote, had said that the 2013 Constitution does not simply make suggestions.

He said: “There is no ambiguity and can be no misunderstanding. It tells the Government what it must do and what it should not do.”

Mr Gavoka said there was no reason why the Constitution had to abolish the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC), which was the anchor of what they held dear.

He said: “Let me be very clear with this, without any ambiguity SODELPA will bring back the Great Council of Chiefs. It is difficult to accept that all other bodies unique to all communities remain intact, but only the GCC has been abolished.”

Mr Gavoka also said the chairman of the TLTB must be nominated by the GCC.
