Rugby has offered a new lease of life for young men in the village of Drue in Kadavu.

The revival of the Drue Sevens team received a major boost when the side received their new set of jersey from sponsors Defence Security and Global Services (DSGS) and Tokaduadua Enterprise yesterday.

DSGS managing director Pastor Vili Raqio told SUNsports that they got involved with the team during one of their evangelical crusades in Drue last November.

“Most of the young men in this team were involved with marijuana and during the crusade they came forward to give their life to Christ,” he said.

“So we looked at ways to help them stay away from drugs and rugby was one of the options we looked at. This led to the revival of the village rugby team and they asked me to look for a sponsor. Since it was difficult to secure one, I then decided to help out and was assisted by Semi Tokaduadua of Tokaduadua Enterprise who designed the jerseys.”

Raqio said they were also happy with the support they received from the Fiji Rugby Union.

Drue Rugby official Maciu Vakaloloma said they’re looking forward to play in the upcoming Uro Sevens and later the Asco Sevens, both to be staged in Kadavu.

“Unfortunately, we could not play in the Disavu tournament last week but we’ll return to Kadavu tomorrow and prepare for the Uro and Asco tournaments,” he added.
