Speaker Asks MP To Sort Out Debt

Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni has had to ask troubled FijiFirst MP Balmindar Singh to sort out his debt with a prominent hardware company.
This was done after Vinod Patel’s staff wrote to Dr Luveni informing her of the outstanding bills they claimed Mr Singh had not made attempts to clear for some time now.
Dr Luveni did not wish to reveal details yesterday.
She, however, confirmed receiving the letter and meeting Mr Singh. She said the letter should not have been sent to her.
“It’s a personal matter and it has nothing to do with Parliament,” she said.
It is understood Mr Singh assured her that he will get in touch with the company and put the matter to rest.
Vinod Patel’s credit manager Mohammed Imtiyaz Hussein confirmed that the company had written to the Speaker but refused to divulge the amount owing.
He said the company was not willing to reveal further details but confirmed that a payment arrangement had been made.
Mr Singh refused to comment on the issue. However, he did not deny owing the company a substantial amount of money.
On Monday, after his discussions with the Speaker, Mr Singh paid $2000. More is still pending and a payment arrangement has been done.
