Land Transport Authority has outsourced the inspection of vehicles to six agencies.

Chief executive Carmine Piantedosi on Wednesday had signed contracts with the Asco Motors, Nabua, Carpenters Motors Walu Bay, Dee Ace Motors, Motor Management, Millennium Inspection Agency Nadi and Millennium Inspection Agency, Lautoka.

Mr Piantedosi said the outsourcing of vehicle inspection was an important step to move the authority forward as it guarantees better customer service pertaining to the inspection of vehicles.

“In having this initiative implemented, it follows suit with the current trends by other neighbouring countries, such as New Zealand and Australia,” Mr Piantedosi said.

“These countries have identified that this service is necessary if they have to cater for all vehicles in the country,” he said.

“The outsourcing of vehicle inspection is an inevitable initiative as the number of vehicles in the country is increasing gradually”.

He said Land Transport Authority’s primary objective is road safety and it is one of the ways we can reduce fatalities on the roads.

“It is really important that we ensure that our roads are driven on by safe vehicles. We have safe drivers, safe vehicles and good roads and it should reduce the fatality on our roads. It is important to maintain a high level of standard in relation to vehicles,” he said.

“We have outsourced this function to qualifying companies to be able to meet the requirements and demand for inspection of vehicles.

“This would also take advantage of better utilizing our human resources and assets in other demanding services by LTA,” Mr Piantedosi said.
