Lokia Landing FC almost caused the biggest upset of the Vodafone National Club Champion’s zonal playoffs at the Fiji Football Association headquarters ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday.

The Tailevu/Naitasiri club held a star studded Kasavu FC to a 0-0 draw in the playoffs opener.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Lokia Landing FC manager Michael Prasad said they kept a low profile going into the game.

“Kasavu FC had a lot of prominent players while we had no big names,” he said.

“We went into the game wanting a win to make our community happy and proud of our achievement.”

Kasavu FC coached by former national football captain Tagi Vonolagi fielded Vodafone national football players like Peniame Drova, Samuela Kautoga, Gabrieli Matanisiga, Lorima Dau, Vuniuci Tikoimereke and veteran Joela Baledroakdroka.

Today, Lokia Landing FC take on Bureta FC in their second pool game at 1.45pm

“The boys have been told to stay focused and continue from where they have left off today,” Prasad added.

Babaas Day

A youthful Raymonds FC went down 1-0 to Navuso Barbarians FC in the second zonal playoffs.

The Nigel Khan coached- Raymonds FC had national football vice-captain Simione Tamanisau as the only senior player in the side while the rest of the team were made up of youth players. Former Labasa striker Joseph Mishra and Shelvin Prasad played for Navuso Barbarians FC.

After a scoreless first half, Navuso Barbarians FC drew first blood when left striker Prashant Sharma slammed in the lone goal from a Tamanisau rebound.

Raymonds FC tried hard to find the equaliser with Kini Madigi toiling hard but the Navuso Barbarians FC defence held on.
