The 28-year-old prop Filipo Talei is confident of making the Fiji Residents side to play against the Australian based-Fiji Bati side in the 2017 Battle of the  Bati on October 7 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

This is his first step towards fulfilling his dream of making it to the Vodafone Fiji Bati for next month’s Rugby League World Cup.

Talei who is policeman by profession hails from Dakuiloa village in Oneata, Lau and plays for Police.

“This will be my first time participating in the Battle of the Bati and hopefully I could be selected to represent Fiji,” he said.

“We’ll be having our trials next week where the players will undergo training sessions and then the selection for the team to represent the Fiji Residents side to play in the Battle of the Bati will be decided.

“Right now I’m trying my best to reach my goal and I’m committed to my training, which is spiritually and mentally.

“I play in the second row and I know that will be a big challenge for me. The two props that I look up to is Jayson Bukuya and Tariq Sims as they are very experienced NRL players.

“If I get the opportunity to play for the Fiji Bati side, I know there will be a lot of challenges that will be ahead of me as I will be facing a lot of experienced players.

“I’m looking forward to the competition ahead of me and I’m thankful for the support I have been getting from my loved ones back at home in pursuing my sporting goals.”
