The Fiji Sugar Corporation has completed the recruitment of a new senior executive management team.

It has been described as all Fijians driven to resurrect the sugar industry in Fiji.

They are:

  •  Manoj Ram- appointed as the new chief financial officer
  •  Kameli Batiweti the General Manager Corporate Services and
  •  Elenoa Korovulavula as the head of Strategic Communication

In announcing the new appointments, FSC chief executive officer Graham Clark said the capability assessments of all technical and administrative staff were underway.

“Revised structures within FSC are now aligned to the FSC strategy and refreshed employment conditions will be implemented as this process is completed.

“New skills will also be recruited with sugar industry experience to further drive FSC to new levels of efficiency.”

Meanwhile Mr Clark said FSC, in close alignment with the Ministry of Sugar, continues to deploy Government support to cane farmers.

“These initiatives include managing cane planting grants, fertiliser and weedicide subsidies and the maintenance of cane access roads in the cane belt.

“A major objective is recovery in existing cane yields and the planting of fallow land back to sugar cane – all designed to lift cane production in line with the FSC focus on cane production.”

Mr Clark said a review of factory capability had been completed by external consulting engineers, designed to set a project programme to improve mechanical and process efficiency in the factories and to secure installed capacity.

“This will commence once the 2017 crushing season is over.”

As for refurbishing of the rail system, enquiries have been issued for engineering work.

“This is targeted for work to commence on the design of the upgrade to the rail system shortly after the end of the 2017 crushing season.”

“The specification and technical requirements of new agricultural machinery and equipment to be purchased by FSC, has been completed.”

“Orders will shortly be placed by FSC for the procurement of mechanical cane harvesters, cane haulage lorries, tractors and agricultural implements to be deployed as soon as practical but designed to have a major impact in 2018, targeted at the further reduction in grower farming costs, as well as improving farming techniques going forward.”
