Crew Expand Knowledge Within Company Operations

A local inter-island ferry service provider has invested in its crew by promoting in house development about the company’s operations.
South Island Shipping Limited which operates the MV Liahona I and MV Liahona II trained some crew members about other work within the company operations.
Company operations manager Ben Cavu said this process will help crew members be more multi-skilled in running the services on their vessels MV Liahona I and II.
“We are reviewing internal restructuring within the company and in house training for the crew to deal with areas like ticketing, fare receiving, cash balancing and so forth to keep them engaged in all areas of the shipping business,” he said.
FRANCHISE DELAY
The company is also awaiting a feedback on their franchise contracts from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
Franchise trips have been delayed for the MV Liahona I and MV Liahona II vessels as the company undergoes its restructuring process.
According to Mr Cavu, they have been provisionally informed that they have been awarded two contracts, one to lower Southern Lau and the other to Kadavu.
“This is yet to be finalised as we have a few company documentation to sort out,” he said.
“At the moment it is just a cargo going across to the outer islands and less passengers.”
Meanwhile, the vessels left Port Mua-i-Walu on Tuesday to serve its normal run to the Kadavu group.
“The MV Liahona I will go through the Nakasaleka, Gasele and Daku while the MV Liahona II will be a direct Suva to Kadavu trip,” Mr Cavu said.
