World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee Waisale Serevi is supporting Fiji’s bid in hosting HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

The sevens magician is known for his prolific and entertaining skills including representing Fiji in the sport for over 21 years. His participation included two victories in the Rugby World Cup 7’s.

He was part of the Fiji Legends and Classic Wallabies entourage that hosted clinics to various school students at the Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

“I support it 200 percent I am with Fiji Rugby Union, the country and the people of Fiji, we want to bid to get one of the HSBC stops in Fiji,” said Serevi.

“What we have done to 7’s rugby all over the world in these years? I totally support and agree that Fiji should host a tournament.”

The Gau native also believes that one day his dream with the rest of the Fijians will see this unfold.

“I am with the idea and believe that one day we will get the chance to host one tournament.”

Australian Women’s rugby skipper Shannon Parry is among the stars of the game have highly backed the idea.

“It would be phenomenal to host it, the way they embrace rugby, their community their sport and culture is phenomenal,” she said.

“We play here every year for the Oceania and Coral Coast Sevens the way the community host and embrace rugby; there is no reason why the HSBC Seven Series cannot be hosted here.”

Former Brumbies hooker Joshua Mann-Rea said, “Sevens is such a big sport here and it’s so dominant in the sport of 7’s and the people deserve to host one of the stops in the series.”

Wallabies outside centre Tevita Kuridani,“I think Fiji should host one of the tournaments as they have won some big tournaments in the series. They deserve to host one.”

Wallaby’s winger Henry Speight said Fiji has a great chance to host such a tournament on international pitches like the Churchill Park, in Lautoka, Lawaqa Park and ANZ stadium in Suva.

“It would be an awesome experience if Fiji gets the HBSC Sevens Series because there would be no better place in the world,” Speight said.

“We have passionate and 7’s crazy fans and Fiji team has contributed a lot to the 7’s rugby like Waisale Serevi, a world of fame inductee and it will be good to host a leg in the Pacific.

“If hosted Samoa and Tonga will definitely support it as they have hosted a super rugby match.”

The duo is expected to depart today to join the Michael Cheika coached team as they prepare to face the South Africa Springboks away from home.
