The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate yesterday presented a cheque as worker’s compensation payout to Rejieli Marieha Fagmanue, one of the dependents of the deceased Fijian worker, Fesaitu Riamkau who died in the Foreign Fishing vessel known as Gilontos in Panama waters in July, 2017.

Fagmanue thanked the Fijian Government for their help and support in intervening to assist their family for repatriating the body and also for taking action in the recovery of her brother’s workers’ compensation claims.

Mr Usamate urged Fagmanue to put her compensation entitlement to good use for her family and their future needs.

The maximum of $50,000 worker’s compensation payout was made to the dependents.

On the same note, the Minister for Employment wishes to remind all Fishing Companies and vessel owners to attest Foreign Contracts of Service through the Ministry’s Labour Compliance Service for any Fijian worker who will be employed out of the Fiji waters.

“We do not want to proceed with any filing of “Stop Departure Order” against any local agents in the future.  We want local agents to comply with the provisions of the Employment Relations Act and its subsidiary legislations in ensuring the health and safety of all seafarers,” Mr Usamate said.
