Government will support initiatives by the Fiji Motorcycle Association in promoting safety riding.

The message was relayed to members by FMA patron Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Siddiq Koya at Shirley Park, Lautoka last Sunday.

Koya could not take part in the ride around Viti Levu due to work commitments.

FMA executive Raiyaz Sahu Khan said the fallen riders had tragically lost their lives in motorcycle accidents, the most recent being about a month ago.

“The one day around Viti Levu trip whereby the Central Sector riders led by its president Rodney Fong and 30 bikers rode from Suva early in the morning to be greeted at Shirley Park by the Western Sector president Amish Patel and his team,” Sahu Khan said.

A total of 60 bikes were parked at Shirley Park and a minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the fallen riders.

“All bikers and their family were treated to lunch and given an official t-shirt to mark the significance of the day,” Sahu Khan said.

FMA acknowledged Aaveen Autar who holds the fastest recorded motorcycle quater mile record of 10.05 seconds by presenting him with a trophy.

Bikers were encouraged to ride within the speed limits and if any records were to be broken it should be done on the tracks.
