Attaining Post-Graduate Degree Pays Off For Deo

The sacrifice by fresh masters degree graduate Shivendra Deo and his immediate family paid off on Friday at the University of the South Pacific graduation at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
“I lost my dad when I was in Year Three,” said Mr Deo.
“My mom worked in a shop as a cashier and my grandfather also worked very hard to support me,” he said.
“They provided me with financial, physical and moral support to put me where I am today.
“Without their support, I would not have made it this far and have a bright future for me and my family.”
Mr Deo who attained a Masters in Information Systems was one of the 1184 graduates who were part of the big ceremony by the regional university.
He said his inspiration was his family, friends, loved ones and the vision to succeed in life and provide a better life for his family.
“We faced a lot of difficulties especially when we lose the head of the family,” he said.
“I used to work part time to supplement the support provided by my family.”
He said his worka was cut out as he had to balance all the activities of his work and post-graduate studies.
“Being a masters student was very tough especially when we have to balance work, studies, social and family life,” he said.
“All in all, I wish to study further and develop my knowledge in other fields as well.”
