The Labasa Police football team have delivered what they had promised and that was to win the Fiji Police Force Interdistrict Championship Trophy.

The tournament featured eight police teams and was held at the Nasova Police grounds, Suva last week.

Labasa Police football coach Vidhya Pillay said they won the title after beating Southern Police 1-0 in the final.

“Our lone goal was scored by Ratu Anare who is the current Labasa district player,” Pillay said.

“We managed to thrash the 2016 champions Police Support Response Unit 4-0 in the semifinal.”

Labasa Police football team director Ajesh Mani said they dedicate the win to their mentor and Northern Divisional Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Verani Nakauyaca.

“SSP Nakauyaca implemented a strategy and repeatedly told us that we must win.

“The words kept buzzing in our ears and pushed us to victory. We also thank our families for their moral support and to other police officers who covered for the players shift so that they don’t have to worry about work.”

Nakauyaca congratulated the team and reminded them to continue to go out and achieve great results and never to  lose focus on their work.
