Inia Rokomatu has promised to put on a top class performance at the Oktoberfest 7s in Munich, Germany to honour his mentor the late Epeli Lagiloa.

Lagiloa mentored the former Yasawa High School student when he joined the Tokatoka Westfield Dragons Club where Rokomatu realised his potential as a  rover or winger in sevens rugby.

Dubbed as the next Setefano Cakau by his peers for his brutal tackles and speed along the touchlines from broken play, Rokomatu believes his hard work has not gone unnoticed.

“I’m happy to be part of this team but my aim is to make the cut for the series in Dubai,” he said.

“This is my first tournament overseas and although it’s a Barbarians side, I will give everything to impress Gareth Baber and make the cut for Dubai later this year.”

The 22–year– old knows that former Pacific sprint champion Banuve Tabakaucoro and Uluiyata Batinisavu will be competing for the same spot but he’s happy to show what he’s capable of.

Rokomatu again reiterated that his rise in rugby has been through Lagiloa.

“I was in pain when told of Master Lagiloa’s death. He was instrumental in my development when I joined Westfield. I dedicate my selection and this tournament to him,” he added.
