TOTAL (Fiji) Limited is looking to introduce solar systems at more of its service stations soon.

Company managing director Martin McCarthy said they have just finished constructing a new five million litre tank at one of their main terminal in Walu Bay.

The new tank will be commissioned soon.

TOTAL owns six storage facilities in Fiji with the main terminals located at Walu Bay and Rodwell Road in Suva and Vuda Point in Lautoka.

Five of these terminals and depots are operated by TOTAL while the remaining one is managed and operated by third parties.

Solar stations

The Vuda station he said was already solar powered so they are also looking at introducing solar powered systems in Suva.

“It’s an investment of $12 million and starting next year we are going to put solar systems at our service stations.

“Twenty service stations will end up being solar powered and this will be one (Laucala Beach Total Service Station) of them.”

He said it will be an investment of $350 to 400,000 per station.

He said they have worked on new pipelines from the Port of Suva wharf to the Walu Bay depot.

“We are building two newstations at the moment and another three forecast for next year.

“It’s in the planning stages so we will have to see how and when it comes along.

“We are trying to get permissions to do things because things are getting a little bit longer then what we might want them to take.

He said they have plans to repair the jetty at Walu Bay but they have a lot of work to do with Ports Authority and Government to get the project off the ground.

He said they have put in a big investment for the jetty project which they would like to fix very quickly because it’s in a very bad condition.

He added they have got a lot of work to do next month especially with the Vuda depot upgrade.
