The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) team have begun conducting awareness sessions on VAT Monitoring System (VMS)/Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) in the western division.

The team was present at the Sigatoka town council chamber and addressed issues to key stakeholders like the supermarket and chemist owners present on Tuesday.

FRCS manager solutions Peni Tuiloma said the event was about creating awareness on the new law that specify the invoicing method concerning all tax payers in Fiji that has been enacted.

“The law is intended to help businesses improve their management, ease administrative procedures and also crack down tax evasion, which will eventually lead to fair compensation in all sectors,” he said.

“Everybody concerned with it should start getting ready and were are awaiting for the respective POS (Point of Sale System) owner to come up and initiate the connection which no one in the Fijian market has come forward. This is a great opportunity for business as well.”

He added the tax payers need to get started now, and avoid the rush when their obligation to comply reaches announced deadline which fall on December 31.

“It has proven difficult for the market to get accredited systems on time. For this reason, the revenue and customs has eased up on the requirements and decided to roll out implementation,” Mr Tuiloma said.

FRCS will provide POS developers with instructors and can test the machine options using our test environment, he said.

Mali Pest Control director Nitulesh Mali said: “It is a new concept and they have placed a deadline but we haven’t tested it yet in the market.”

“The concept is good for FRCS as it will show the point of sale and we have to talk it over with the POS suppliers.”
