Delta Tigers On Track For IDC

After winning the 2017 Vodafone Fiji FACT and INKK Battle of Giants tournaments, the Rewa football side will be out to claim the 2017 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC).

The Courts IDC gets underway on Tuesday, October 10, at Churchill Park in Lautoka, takes a break on Friday, October 13, for the Fiji FA annual congress while semifinals will be played on Saturday, October 14, and the finals on Sunday, October 15.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Rewa coach Marika Rodu said preparations are on track as players need to work on their fitness.

“We’re expecting a higher level of competition in this year’s Courts IDC tournament as it will be a long week so we’ll need to prepare for it,” he said.

“The boys have started with their training sessions for over a week now and fitness is one key area that players will need to keep up with.

“We’re also eyeing our third title for this year. We’ll try to work on our game structure and what we would like to lift to another level is our performance.

“It has been seven years since we last won the IDC and we’ll try our best to close the gap this year.

“However, we’re hopeful that the number of players attending our daily training sessions would increase soon.”

Rodu is expecting some new players to join the side for the tournament but he’s now waiting for a final decision to be made by Rewa Football executives.

“We don’t want to disclose any information regarding the inclusion of new players. So, hopefully in the next five days we’ll have a lot of activities in the side happening so I will slowly inform the public on any updates.”
