Transportation: 56 Bus Operators Expected To Go Live With E-ticketing

About 56 bus operators around Fiji are expected to have the bus e-ticketing machines running and consumers are expected to have their card topped up by this Sunday.
Salanieta Nekebau Vukici of Kalekana in Lami were one of the many consumers who lined up at the Suva bus stand to get herself an e-ticketing card.
Ms Vukici said the card will make travelling easier for her especially during times of emergency.
“For most people, during an emergency especially when we need to go to the hospital we always go around asking for money for our bus fare, but with the e-ticketing card we just have to top up and if we need to travel we just use the cards,” Ms Vukici said.
She said a $10 top up on her card saves her times and less worry about her fare.
Comments from the Fiji Bus Operators Association and Vodafone Fiji were not immediately available.
However, FBC News yesterday reported that Fiji Bus Operators Association have stated that they are aiming to have e-ticketing machines installed in all buses by Sunday.
President Richard Lal said that they do not expect any issues on Monday.
Vodafone Fiji’s Shailendra Prasad has said that if any bus does not have the e-ticketing machines by Monday, passengers will travel for free.
In an earlier report, Vodafone Fiji confirmed that there are 1500 agents around the country in which consumers can have their cards topped up.
