Not many of us know much about labels, tags and packaging of our clothes. However, there is a hardworking team that provides the garment industry with such services.

Image Label Systems Ltd has been providing its services for more than 20 years in Fiji. They are a past winner of the Medium Exporter of the Year Award.

They are part of a New Zealand owned, international business, with branches in NZ, Australia, Hong Kong, China, India, Vietnam and America.

With the digital marketing stepping into the business market, the company innovated its market base and now has e-business solutions, including an on-line web shop.

The customers can order their labels, tags, packaging and other trims seamlessly, 24/7.

David Marshall, Image Label Systems Ltd chief executive officer, said: “Customers find the ability to order from a visual platform, where a product image is displayed at time of order, to be a faster and more accurate solution.”

About the company

The company has been supplying labels, tags and packaging to the garment industry in Fiji since 1997.

Across their global business, they provide label and packaging solutions to a wide range of businesses, from small ‘boutique’ brands through to major international brand names.

The start up in 1997 was centred on a woven label manufacturing facility, which was targeted at supplying local customers, and being a cost-effective production facility for the wider groups Australasian businesses.

“In Fiji we offer very much the same diversity, with a wide range of clients from startup designers through to the country’s largest garment factories,” said Mr Marshall.

Business Growth

With the virtual collapse of garment manufacturing in Australasia, a Fijian based woven label factory was no longer viable.  In 2008 they restructured to focus on in-house variable print facility, and became a service oriented sourcing activity for a wide range of garment trims.

They have also introduced a comprehensive range of promotional products that have been well received by customers within the Fijian corporate market.

Today, they are Fiji’s premier label and packaging supplier to the garment industry and corporate market, offering innovative and flexible business solutions, and creative product design.

Business challenges

Mr Marshall said: “We face the same challenges in our market that are faced by our customers, and we help to solve those by working collaboratively with them.

“We are particularly conscious of offering the best possible ‘value equation’ of price, quality and service, confident that we can overcome any challenges we and our customers may face together.”

Mr Marshall also mentioned that they acknowledge that labour costs are an issue in any manufacturing environment; however a bigger issue for the garment industry is labour recruitment and retention.

“We believe our whole business in a success story, having survived a range of challenges over the past 20 years to be a stronger and more resilient business as a result.” he added.

Future Plans

“While our history is rich and diverse; our future is exciting and visionary.

“We are constantly seeking smarter ways of serving our customers, and are in a position to invest in new technologies and product lines to continue to support our Fiji customers as we have done for the past 20 years,” said Mr Marshall.
