Two bachelors are homeless after an early morning inferno destroyed their three-bedroom house in Nasau, Nadi yesterday.

Ritesh Ram was still asleep when he sensed that their house for the last 20 years was on fire.

Mr Ram said the fire started around 7am just before he would usually wake up to get ready to leave for work at 7.30am.

“It started from the kitchen and everything was razed to the ground,” the 36-year-old said.

His younger brother had left about half an hour earlier for work.

He said a total of $80,000 worth of items was damaged including their late mother’s most prized singing competition trophies.

“My mum, Daya Wati was a good log geet (folk song) singer and she had many trophies which were part of the best memories left by her before she passed away in 2011,” he said.

“Now those items are gone as well.”

They have sought refuge with their sister.

National Fire Authority trucks were present at the scene but were too late to contain the fire.

An investigation is underway.
