Kudos to PM!

Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa, Suva

The PM and his team should be praised for all the hard work done during the Climate Change Week at Sukuna Park last week.

We Fijians need to realise that climate change is real and as the PM stressed, teamwork is essential, doing our level best in saving our own environment from the ravage of climate change.

It is encouraging to read that Russia will donate over a million Fijian dollars towards COP23 on top of the previous contributions and commitments from Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Estonia, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, plus other organisations like GIZ from Germany, the UNDP and the Asian Development Bank (Fiji Sun 30/9).

North Korea is not in the above list and we have been hearing of its intention to drop its InterContinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) test in the Pacific region and what a man-made disaster this would be if it becomes reality!

The Prime Minister said “Fiji, as a small nation, has a very big job to do.

“But teamwork has got us over the line before and with God’s help, we intend to do it again.”

While we have been encouraged to work together and pray for COP23 and divine help in our fight against climate change, let us also pray for North Korea to have a change of heart, because what we as a nation are striving for could vanish, if North Korea goes ahead with its alleged plan.

Intelligent political choice

Dharmendra Kumar, Suva

The Government that comes into power after the 2018 General Election must be intelligent and for that to happen we the people must make a thoroughly intelligent choice.

My criteria is very simple, I will write down in a piece of paper what the current Government has delivered in the past four years in contrast to what the rest of the political parties promising to deliver.

Will you trust a party that has delivered or a party that is promising to deliver?

I love democracy nevertheless every choice must be intelligent therefore do not be swayed by emotions.
