E-ticketing Is Here! Get Registered, Get Your Card

EDITORIAL:
It was the beginning of another milestone and change for Fiji, another new era as we finally move into a cashless system with the new e-transport card. |
As it is normal for every human being to resist change, this is however a change that we Fijians must adapt to.
Now and again we call for change whether in terms of development or in our lifestyles, yet we resist change.
This new e-ticketing system is a step forward for Fijians, one that we will need to get used to and prove to the world that yes, Fiji will move with modern technologies, and time.
Countries around the world have similar systems as well so why can’t Fiji do the same?
For the last three months, Vodafone Fiji’s acting chief executive officer, Ronald Prasad, says the company has been equipping all public buses with the technology and infrastructure needed to go cashless.
So as of yesterday, all commuters travelling on public buses will not need to carry cash to pay their fare. All they needed is their e-transport cards.
You no longer need to count your coins or worry about keeping cash aside for a week’s fare. Once you top up your card, either every week or every month depending on how often you use public transport, you need not worry about your fare again. It is absolutely safe, secure and easy to use.
Board the bus, advise the driver where you’re going and tap you card onto the machine provided. But don’t forget to take your receipt.
As the transition takes place slowly, a 24-hour Vodafone Fiji team is working around the clock to ensure that no issues arise with the e-transport machines.
You may top up your e-ticketing card at any of the 1200 top-up agents. Cards for students are being given in schools while elderly citizens can get their cards from the Social Welfare Department.
As of yesterday morning, over 600,000 Fijian consumers had registered for an e-transport card.
It is important that regular bus users understand that they must register to get an e-transport card – one that will never expire because disposable cards are only valid for 30 days and they are more convenient for tourists. There are absolutely no fees and charges to your card when used.
Although some people may resist this new change, we don’t have a choice. We must accept the change and keep Fiji moving forward.
