Iowane Naivalurua has started work as the new Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

“I started in my new office a week ago,” he said.

But Mr Naivalurua said he would not be saying much at this stage.

He said he started at his Nasese office in Suva after a workshop for Permanent Secretaries in Nadi.

It is understood that one of his priorities will be finding suitably qualified and experienced people to fill vacant positions for heads of diplomatic missions in Beijing (China), Jakarta (Indonesia), New York (USA) and New Delhi (India).

Mr Naivalurua was Fiji’s Ambassador to China and was based in Beijing.

Before that he was the Ambassador at Large in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Naivalurua replaces Robin Nair.
