Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) chief executive officer Graham Clarke said this while presenting new sets of uniforms to Labasa Mill employees yesterday.

Accompanied by FSC chief operation officer Navin Chandra, Mr Clarke told the heads of department to make sure all workers wear the uniforms and maintain occupational health and safety at all times.

“We are standardising all protective uniforms around FSC,” Mr Clarke said.

“We have given the uniforms to Rarawai, Lautoka and now Labasa.”

Meanwhile, Mr Clarke said he had a good opportunity to have a meeting with the management and heads of department of FSC Labasa Mill to discuss the progress of this year’s crushing season and set targets for next year early.

When requested if he could reveal what was their target, Mr Clarke said it was too early.

Labasa Mill

“Labasa Mill is not performing well as last year, but it is not that bad,” he said.

“So far they have crushed more than 550,000 tonnes of cane, which is not too bad and it can be much better.

“Labasa Mill had a few more breakdowns and mechanical issues than last year.

“Because of that we have Tonnes of Cane to Tonnes of Sugar (TCTS) little bit below this year.

“There are still about 180,000 tonnes of cane standing in the field.

“I have advised the management to work together to make sure that we finish off this season well,” Mr Clarke said.
