Vodafone Fijian football captain Roy Krishna achieved another milestone by captaining Wellington Phoenix in their 1-1 draw against Adelaide United in the opening round of the A-League at Westpac Stadium yesterday.

Krishna is the first Fijian footballer to captain a professional side and the Fiji Football Association praised him for making the country proud.

“It’s a milestone achievement for Fiji Football and we’re proud of Krishna,” Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said.

“Krishna is the captain of the national team for the last four years and is a very skilful player. Our players have a lot of potential if given the chance to play at that level. We have a few of our players playing professional football as well but this is the biggest achievement so far.”

Yusuf said they’re expecting more local players to play professional football in the future.

The A-League football competition of Australia is among the world’s toughest professional football competition.
