Cancer Awareness As Important As Raising Funds: Visvanath Das

Pinktober get together events not only help raise funds but are also an opportunity to create awareness about cancer.
Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), chief executive, Visvanath Das said such was a great chance for people to chat openly about a topic that could be difficult for many to discuss otherwise.
While speaking at the morning tea hosted in aid of cancer awareness last month, Mr Das said he was thrilled to see his whole organisation come together to support the fight against cancer with the Fiji Cancer Society.
“We administer and carry out functions for the Government and raise funds for the provision of public goods and services, so for a change, the organisation joined hands to raise funds for a noble cause,” Mr Das said.
Strongly supporting the theme of the month, ‘No one fights alone’, the staff of Fiji Revenue and Customs Service donated $2126.00 to the Fiji Cancer Society.
Staff at the event had a chance to listen to the story of one of the cancer survivors, the Vude Queen and Fijian singer, Laisa Vulakoro.
Ms Vulakoro thanked the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service for supporting the Fiji Cancer Society.
“Thank you for supporting people with cancer and those who need treatment.
“Your donation will go a long way in making a difference in somebody’s life,” Ms Vulakoro said.
