The Fiji Rugby Union wants qualified  personnel and university graduates to run the show and join the vibrant and dynamic team at Rugby House.

The FRU has advertised for key positions to boost the current team, led by chief executive officer John O’Connor who have implemented changes endorsed by the board led by chairman, Commander Francis Kean.

The FRU has made drastic changes to keep up with the pace of the modern game.

“Our national sport has never enjoyed success like never before. We are the current Olympic 7s champions, our Vodafone Flying Fijians are ranked 9th in the world and our Fiji Airways Drua are currently second after round six of the Australian National Rugby Championship,” Kean said.

“In our bid to rebrand and revamp the image of our national sport as a marketable commodity, FRU wants to keep on lifting the profile of the sport.”

The key positions advertised are:

Manager Marketing, Communications and Public Relations

He will lead and manage the marketing, communications and public relations unit to establish a distinctive brand and image. Key Accountabilities include:

  • Develop and implement marketing, communication, brand and public relations strategies, plans and programmes that fit FRU’s strategic objectives
  • Oversee, manage and set guidance for all communications for FRU
  • Advertise and lead promotional activities with sponsors;
  • Design and deliver publications and FRU Collateral • Ensure close collaboration and partnerships with all stakeholders;
  • Prepare budgets in relation to the approved projects and monitor actual spend.

Essential attributes:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or any other relevant discipline with proven 5 years’ experience in marketing, brand development, communications, public relations, journalism or editorial roles etc.
  • A self-starter with initiative, passion and enthusiasm for the national sport in Fiji.

Manager Event Management

He will be responsible for the initial delivery of all the commercial arrangements of FRU sanctioned events including Domestic Competition, Test Matches, National Rugby Championship, Awards Nights, Anniversary Dinners and all the other various FRU organised matches. Key Accountabilities include:

  • Develop an effective run sheet to ensure proper management and coordination of the events
  • Plan, prepare and maintain an effective merchandising programme
  • Ensure a structured ticketing coordination for various events
  • Manage venue contracting, logistics and arrangements for the events
  • Liaise with relevant service providers to ensure that hospitality infrastructure is provided.

Essential Attributes: A tertiary qualification in Event Management, Marketing or any other relevant discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in events planning and execution. Demonstrated capacity to liaise with industry, to implement identified event initiatives.

Manager Sponsorship

He will be responsible for building and leading all phases of a sponsorship programme, including sponsor prospecting, customisation of proposals contract revision and servicing, and sponsor follow-up and support. Key Accountabilities include: Develop and implement a sponsorship sales plan for increasing revenues, and budget to achieve the sales plan,submit sponsorship plans, prospect activity, and forecast reports to CEO and provide briefings to others as necessary or as requested .Manage all sponsor agreements and ensure that all contracted benefits are delivered,lead and approve all sponsored advertising promotions and manage all relationships with sponsors and potential sponsors. Essential Attributes: A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing with at least 5 – 7 years of experience in a similar role,strong written and verbal communication skills and strict attention to detail.

Account Supervisor

He will be supporting to the manager sponsorship, the account supervisor will be responsible for maintaining connection with the sponsors and ensure efficient and effective delivery of all agreed deliverables with all our sponsors within allocated time and budget Key Accountabilities include: Develop client relationships and grow existing accounts as well as attract new sponsors,act as appoint of contact between the sponsor and FRU, ensure timely deliveries within the budget and effectively analyse results, develop communications strategies for new and existing sponsorships, identify new marketing opportunities and maintain internal and external agency partners. Essential Attributes: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance with at least 3 – 4 years of experience in a similar role.
