Papua New Guinea Kumuls youngest player Lachlan Lam is eager to don the Kumuls jumper in today’s Tri Nations and later at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. “I’m looking forward to this,” Lam told SUNsports.

“This is a very exciting time to be part of a team that has good experienced players.”

The 19-year-old is looking forward to play against the Australian Kangaroos where his dad and rugby league great Adrian Lam is part of their coaching staff. Adrian was also a former Kumuls captain.

Lachlan was just three years old when his dad Adrian, who was nicknamed the Kumul Kid, played his last Test for PNG and is only old enough to remember his father playing for Wigan between 2001 and 2004.

However, he has been following in his footsteps by playing with the Sydney Roosters.

“It will be exciting but it will be difficult to put on an opposing jersey to the team my dad is coaching.” Lachlan said his dad’s advice to him was to enjoy the moment.

“Dad  always reminds me to enjoy since it’s a long way from home, so I intend to enjoy every moment.”
