Diwali Fire Safety Advice

The National Fire Authority (NFA) is reminding the general public to be mindful of fire safety during Diwali.

As we celebrate this festival, it is important that we all be mindful of fire safety to avoid a fire incident from happening at our homes and properties.

The celebration will see an increase in the use of ‘diyas’ or oil lamps, candles and a lot of electrical decorations.

The festival will also feature fireworks.

During your celebrations, please be aware of the dangers surrounding the use of candles and diyas in your homes and surroundings.

There will also be a lot of cooking and you are again reminded not to leave any cooking unattended.

With the use of candles, diyas, electrical decorations, fireworks and a lot of cooking, the risk and possibility of a fire occurring in our homes increases.

Home owners are advised to be alert and to exercise extra care to avoid a fire starting at home.

NFA has attended tragic home fires in the past during periods of such celebrations and it is important for home owners to be vigilant and ensure a fire safe celebration.

Fireworks

If you are thinking of using fireworks as part of your celebrations, please follow the firework code relating to fireworks use.

Having fireworks at home can be great fun as long as they are used safely.

Fireworks are safe if you use them properly.

If you are putting on a home display you should follow some simple steps to make sure that everyone has a good time without getting hurt.
