Bank South Pacific: Awareness Bank Supports Cancer Afflicted, Says McCarthy

Bank South Pacific Fiji Country manager Kevin McCarthy said the BSP group was raising awareness on breast cancer to support those who were afflicted.
”We remember those who have lost their battle to any of the cancers and we want to encourage and support those who are currently struggling with the disease,” Mr McCarthy said.
He was speaking earlier this month, as BSP joined a growing number of corporate organisations in raising awareness on Breast Cancer.
Throughout this month, staff of the BSP Group are involving themselves in events around Pinktober.
“It’s a cause we’re passionate about. It means something different to each of us,” said Kevin McCarthy, BSP Fiji Country Manager.
Activities to observe Pinktober included BSP, BSP Life and BSP Finance staff wearing pink ribbons throughout the month, the observing of “Wear Pink Wednesday” and women’s health talks by medical personnel. Departments have also been organising their own fundraising events to raise money for the cause.
“In line with our core value of people, we have arranged for experts to talk to our staff about this terrible disease. Awareness is the first step in fighting this.
“The experts are also sharing information on measures each person can take to protect themselves from breast and cervical cancer.
“The male staff have also found these presentations enlightening. The wider the awareness, the better” said Mr McCarthy.
“We are also allowing staff time off work to have checks and are encouraging them to get screened for these cancers on a regular basis.”
Funds raised will be donated to the Fiji Cancer Society.
