New Winner For CMFI Sevens

The three-day Christian Mission Fellowship International (CMFI) Macuata Region Sevens tournament got underway at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.
Tournament coordinator Esava Takirua said it was unfortunate that defending champions Wardens Suva were not able to participate.
However, he says, in the Tier 1 category there were 10 teams being divided into two pools.
“With Wardens out means that we will have a new winner this year,” Takirua said.
“For Tier Two we have twenty-two teams and the defending champions are Wailevu Blacks and they have come in again to defend the title.”
He said the Tier 2 winner will walk away with $3000 while the Tier 1 will pocket $10,000.
Takirua said also they are having an Under-19 competition.
Tournament financial controller Liviana Moi said they’re looking forward to raise money from their gate takings.
“This is the third year in a row for us to organise the tournament. The purpose of organising the tournament is to raise funds for our missionary works.” she added.
The tournament continues today with the Cup final to be played at 3pm on Saturday.
