Fiji Airways 7s head coach Gareth Baber stresses discipline is a key element for players to be selected in the 2017/18 World Sevens Series, which starts in December.

The extended squad trained at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour, Deuba yesterday despite the wet weather.

“We are constantly working on our discipline especially in tackle situations,” Baber said.

“In the past few days I have been putting a lot of pressure on the players by fatiguing them.

“I hope they cope in terms of how each of them can technically be prepared to be part of the final squad.

“As players  they  need to be one level higher in terms of their defence but apart from that what amazed me the most was that the boys still managed to give their best during training despite the wet and muddy ground condition.”

Baber also said that it’s too early to rate individual performance that would likely make it to the final squad as they need to meet the required selection requirement.

“It’s really difficult to make a decision on the player’s performance,” he added.

“I will most likely name the squad by the end of next week.”

The Central Coast 7s is set for October 25-26, Oceania 7s (November 10-11), and Silicon Valley 7s in San Francisco (November 4-5).
