It was a time of celebration for the Nadroga football team after winning the 2017 Courts Interdistrict Championship’s senior division title.

The town of Sigatoka came alive yesterday as football fans accompanied the players and officials in a float procession through the town. The procession was led by the town’s school band.

The victorious Nadroga players shared the allocated prize-money of $3500 and also received gift packs from their supporters in the business sector.

The Stallions came from behind to beat Navua 2-1 in the final at Churchill Park, Lautoka last Sunday.

The goals were scored by musician turned striker Tomasi Tuicakau.

Nadroga Football Association president Mohammed Ali said they won the prizemoney of $7500 but the players shared almost half of it.

“The players deserve to share that certain portion of the prizemoney,” Ali said.

“The players did create history for the association and the town as a whole.

“The victory march began from the Tappoo end of town via the market road and then right to the town end at Sigatoka village.

“It was great to see many fans to be part of the celebration.

“We thank our sponsors Moshin Insulation Sydney, Tappoo and Mr Mobile/ Chicken Express for providing gifts to the players as well.

“This is a historic moment for our young team and will boost their morale come the next season.”

Last night players and officials were hosted to a presentation night at Cuvu College which was officiated by Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf.
