Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro has confirmed that the investigation file on the death of a Kioan woman at Labasa Hospital after a caesarean delivery has opened.

This is after Simeli Bolanacamakau lodged a report at Labasa Police Station alleging his wife, Telafou Fiafia’s death was the result of negligence by medical professionals.

“The investigation file is open and the investigation is still going on after the husband lodged a report,” Ms Naisoro said.

There has been a flood of emails, letters and social media written to the Fiji Sun by families raising questions about the capability of Labasa Hospital in deliveries.

Meanwhile, the assistant minister for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Alex O’Conor during his recent visit to Labasa Hospital said it was not a matter of blame game.

“There is no matter of blame in this situation,” Mr O’Conor said.
