Man denies meth belonged to him

A 5-year-old man charged with unlawful possession of 0.2 grams of methamphetamine has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ian James Wallwork appeared before Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage yesterday and informed the Court through his lawyer that they would be making representation to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in regards to the charge.

Defence lawyer claims that there was another person who should be rightfully charged for the offence and not Wallwork.

On October 5 this year at about 7am Police raided and searched a room in an apartment complex in Namadi Heights belonging to the accused who was the service manager.

Police searched Wallwork’s room and found a  small sealed plastic bag containing white crystals.

The white crystals were seized and handed over to the Police station where it was then taken to the Forensic Unit for testing.

The results of the test confirmed that the crystals found were methamphetamine.

The accused was arrested and interviewed under caution where he denied that the methamphetamine were his.

The case has been adjourned to December 1 for mention to fix a hearing date.

Bail was extended for the accused.
