Minister Koya Commissions $33K Borehole At Navatu

Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya yesterday said the Government would not leave anyone behind and would not tire with its responsibility to deliver the best services.
During the commissioning of a $33,135.15 borehole at Navatu Island in Bua, Mr Koya told the people: “Your Government will always lend a helping hand, as we want to ensure stability for all Fijians.
“However, as a citizen of Fiji, you too have certain responsibilities to uphold.”
Mr Koya was addressing the 23 households with a population of 137 who are direct beneficiaries of the project.
“Our commitment to the wellbeing of ordinary Fijians surpasses previous Governments and will continue to do so,” Mr Koya said.
“This project will help you meet the requirements for a reliable, sustainable and improved supply of quality water in Navatu, an area which struggles with shortages of water especially during the dry season.
“Given the investment and the infrastructure provided, Government has committed to bringing water under the ocean to your island at Navatu.
“For this reason, I urge you to adhere to the recommended pumping rate and durations given to your water committee to ensure sustainability of the project.
“I wish to also remind you that failure to comply with this, could lead to an unsustainable yield and a possible degradation in water quality.”
He said with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama being the incoming president of COP23, development of projects such as boreholes, was part of the Government’s endeavor to build greater resilience at grass-roots level.
