Fiji Airways Drua and Bond University Queensland Country both lost their last round games over the weekend.

But both teams have done enough in the last eight rounds and head to Toowoomba on Sunday for the Australian National Rugby Championship semifinal at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Queensland Country lost 29-26 to Perth Spirit while the Drua lost 36-29 to the Sydney Rays at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The Senirusi Seruvakula –coached team would like to get even after Country beat them 24-17 at Churchill Park in round seven.

Reaching the semifinals is an achievement but reaching the final would be a bonus for the Drua in its inaugural year.

“The boys need to believe. We have made good progress,” he said.

“We need to learn from our mistakes and push on.”

Assistant coach for Country Paul Carozza said: “The positive is we’re still in the finals. Our performances throughout the season have earned us the right to host a home semi-final in Toowoomba against the Fijians.

“The team will have to regroup and turn their focus to the next challenge ahead.”Head coach Brad Thorn is looking forward to taking his side to one of Queensland Country rugby’s heartlands.

“The Darling Downs is the biggest country rugby region in Queensland and Toowoomba is arguably the spiritual home of Queensland Country Rugby,” said Thorn.

“We really wanted to play our semi-final final in regional Queensland and as a team we are really looking forward to playing in Toowoomba.

“We recorded just one win during the 2016 season and that was in Toowoomba against NSW Country, we’re looking forward to taking the semi-final back to the Darling Downs and showing the local rugby community just how much we’ve grown as a team on and off the field in this year.”
