Design Engineering Lautoka football players were yesterday given a civic reception and thanked for bringing glory and fame to the sugar city.

As a gesture of appreciation, the Lautoka City Council has given Lautoka FA the use of Churchill Park’s main ground free of charge as they prepare for the Pacific Cup in New Zealand, later this month.

Hosting the champion Courts Interdistrict Championship, Pillay’s Garments Champion vs Champion and Vodafone Premier League, council CEO Jone Nakauvadra thanked the players and officials.

“This is just a way to say thank you for your gallant effort for bringing fame and glory to the people of Lautoka,” he said.

“You brought smiles to all the people of Lautoka this year through your victorious performance by winning the IDC, CvC and also the national league.

“I know that you are now preparing for the Pacific Cup. The support of the council is always there for you. You have brought glory so the LCC has to repay in a similar manner.

“We need to recognise your performance of the hard work you have put in.”

Lautoka Football Association president Abdul Kadar thanked the council for always being there for the team.

“We assure the people of Lautoka that we will try to bring more glories in years to come if we have such backing throughout the year.

“The executives and I have seen the support you give to the association and we appreciate that very much.”
