Build Up:Band Will Round Up Centennial Celebration With Military Tattoo

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces will create another milestone with a military tattoo and centennial celebration to take place at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next month.
RFMF hopes to hold a memorable event and pave the way for a possible Pacific Military Tattoo similar to the television spectaculars held in Europe.
Organising committee chairman RFMF Director Finance and Logistics, Commander Lepani Vaniqi, said the RFMF Band had played an important part in the country’s history and it was only right to honour them with an event befitting their 100 years of service.
“The military tattoo is a very important event for any military or disciplined force as the band plays an integral part of any unit,” Commander Vaniqi said.
“For us, this year marks a century since the first military band was formed in 1917. We have made the programme in a way to showcase what audiences abroad have been privy to.
“Each of the bands that would be at the military tattoo will also display certain aspects of their culture apart from their normal marching show. It is an event for everybody to be a part of.”
The Military Tattoo will be a stage for marching bands from here and abroad to show their skills to the Fijian public. This year the plan is to recreate something similar to the military tattoo held in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Commander Vaniqi said this would be an experience of a lifetime for the public.
“When the Edinburgh Military Tattoo happens, it somewhat becomes a television spectacular and there is a large public interest about the event,” he said.
“We are proud that the RFMF band has been a part of the Edinburgh Tattoo since 1965. This year gives us the opportunity to bring this to the people of Fiji.”
The RFMF Military Tattoo will take place on December 8 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva. Tickets will be on sale soon.
