The InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa is organizing its very own Wedding Open Day that is to be held at Natadola Bay on Saturday the 18th of November 2017. The event which is the first of its kind for the Resort has already begun to attract a lot of attention from interested brides, in Fiji and abroad.

The InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa was last week recognised in Thailand at the 2017 Haute Grandeur Awards as Fiji’s Best Beach Resort and Fiji’s Best Family Resort.

Other than these Awards, the Resort was also recognized this year as Fiji and Australasia’s Leading Resort at the World Travel Awards.

The InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa has chosen the Fiji Sun to be its preferred newspaper to share more information about this event.

We caught up with Hudson Mitchell; Director of Leisure Sales and Marketing to find out more about the event and also about their preferred suppliers that will be attendance.

When the rest of the tourism industry is focusing on the international market, why has the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa opted to pursue our local market?

When it comes to weddings in Fiji, the “norm” is to pursue the international market as they prefer to get married in Resorts, supposedly have bigger incomes and travel in groups that assist with bookings.

In our case, we have found that there are families in Fiji that have a desire to work with Resorts to help look after their ideal wedding dream into a reality. In the last couple of years we have seen an increase in the number of local families; of mixed ethnic backgrounds, use our Resort as their preferred venue.

The local bookings that we have received have also been via way of word of mouth and the fact that they have heard from family members of friends. This shows that there is a market in Fiji that has a desire to work hence our new and exciting approach to the local market.

Why should our local families book the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa over other Resorts in Fiji?

There are many options in Fiji for our local market to choose from. Whilst we acknowledge that fact, we also are very aware of our points of differences are and why we stand out in the crowd.

First and foremost, being a Resort that is based in Fiji and staffed by our multi-ethnic community, we thrive and enjoy looking after our local guests when they check in and stay with us.

There is a sense of pride amongst our staff to look after other local guests and offer them the same experience that our international guests enjoy. Our staff are highly trained, experienced and love what they do. To offer a high calibre of guest experience to our local guests feels absolutely amazing!

Other than this, we have the #1 beach on the Fijian mainland, our rooms are the largest via way of size, our cuisine is a mixture of local tastes and international flavours to appeal to our local market, we offer an award winning spa and a championship golf course that only add to the overall experience that guests can hope to expect and enjoy.

And also, when it comes to weddings, our Wedding Planners are event specialists with an eye to detail and a proven track record of consistently delivering quality weddings for our more discerning brides.

Who are the suppliers that will be present on the day and what industries are they representing?

We have just under 30 suppliers on the day that we are partnering up with. These suppliers are the ones that we already work with and those that we have an existing relationship with.

The suppliers range from hair and makeup stylists, photographers, florists, themeing companies, musicians, chocolatiers, wedding favour specialists and more.

The idea is to make this event a one-stop-shop so that brides and potential brides and understand their options to help plan and prepare for their wedding day and choose from our preferred suppliers to help turn their wedding dreams into a reality.

Are all your suppliers from big and established companies that already have a track record for success in the wedding industry in Fiji?

We are using a great mixture of suppliers. Some of them are the more established companies such as Pure Fiji and Tappoos Fiji.

Some of our suppliers are specialists in their field and are renowned in the wedding industry in Fiji. These are the likes of Hair and Make-up Specialists, Kama Catch me, Grace Creations and more.

We are also using this event to act as a platform for local talent that is available in Fiji that just needs an opportunity to be introduced and supported.

We are excited about the inclusion of Pepe Pepe, Pawpaw Patch and involving a local community of pottery makers and handicraft specialists.

What has the response been like to date and what can interested people expect on this day?

The response has been nothing short of amazing. We are using social media marketing and print advertising these last few weeks and will be engaging with both television and radio advertising as we get closer to the event.

The word is out there and quickly spreading. We are excited about the prospect of having our local brides and brides-to-be use our award winning Resort as the backdrop to their wedding day.

We will also be releasing a local inspired wedding package on the day and look forward to connecting our local guests with our preferred suppliers.

We are renowned for turning wedding dreams into a reality so most definitely, we’re expecting a bit of magic and lots of love in the air at Natadola Bay!
