Lolohea Given Time To Arrange Lawyer’s Fees

Murder accused Timoci Tupou Lolohea requested Suva High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo yesterday for more time to arrange money to pay his lawyer.

The 56-year-old appeared before Justice Temo represented by Suva lawyer Abhay Singh.

It is alleged that on March 20 this year, Lolohea stabbed his de-factor partner, Elenoa Dicovi, multiple times and unlawfully entered the compound of Zulfikar Begg with intent to commit an offence.

Mr Singh made an application yesterday to withdraw as Lolohea’s lawyer due to lack of instructions from his client.

When Justice Temo asked Lolohea about his position on Mr Singh’s application to withdraw, he said he did not want his lawyer to withdraw as counsel.

Lolohea told Justice Temo that he needed more time to recover the money to pay Mr Singh.

Justice Temo told Lolohea that judging from the court papers, the evidence by the state prosecution against him was strong.

However, the prosecution still had to solicit the evidence to come from the witnesses.

Justice Temo highlighted the importance of engaging experienced lawyers to fight court cases.

“If you win your case, good for you. If you lose your case, you get life imprisonment,” Justice Temo told Lolohea.

“Nothing is free! They (lawyers) have to earn a living, so you have to pay.”

The court heard that Lolohea’s trial date was set to take place between April 30 to May 11 next year.

“You have six months left to cough up money for him (lawyer) and to prepare,” Justice Temo said.

The case was adjourned to November 30 for mention for Lolohea to make arrangements with his lawyer on the issue of payment.

Lolohea was further remanded.
