Commitment to preserving Fiji’s records of old and pursuing to meet the demands of the current times, earned the National Archives the Fiji Business Excellence Prize. They were one of the eight organisations that won in this category in the Annual Programme organised by Fiji National University.

On receiving the award, National Archives director Opeta Alefaio described the award as a great achievement for the department and for their committed staff.

Mr Alefaio said the competition helped their staff take a look at themselves and work hard as a team.

He acknowledged the initiative by the people behind the Business Excellence awards.

“I would like to thank the FBEA secretariat for the encouragement and support, and tools to help us take an honest look at ourselves, to understand our strengths and weaknesses and to then learn how to meaningfully deal with those strengths and weaknesses,” Mr Alefaio said.

The entire team from National Archives were also present and the joy at receiving this award was evident on their faces.

“We want to be able to stand here and do justice to the concept of public service, to do justice to the title public servant,” he said.

Mr Alefaio then publicly acknowledged his team who were up on stage with him.

“Thank you Team Archives, for embracing this challenge. You did this, not me. You have seen what is possible and you’ve earned this,” he added.

On a short video presentation, the National Archives showcased the various things that they have in store and the people who work to look after and preserve our records as a people and a nation.
