Land Transport Authority can charge bus drivers up to $1000 if they fail to carry disposable e-Ticketing cards.

This was confirmed yesterday by the independent Bus Fare Review Committee chairman, Joel Abraham, during the public consultation at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva.

“LTA has undertaken an amendment to the regulations stating that bus drivers who do not carry disposable cards can be charged up to $1000 as failure to carry disposable cards. All this is to ensure that the services available to the travelling public and people can travel without issues,” Mr Abraham said.

About 35 people visited the consultation from 12pm to 2pm to give their submissions in Suva yesterday.

Mr Abraham said people had expressed their views on things like the bus cleanliness, the level of fares, travelling from stage five and above, reducing the bus fares, loud music in the buses, drivers’ attitude and disposable cards.

Today is the last day of the bus fare consultation, which will be held at Syria Park, Nausori, from 12pm to 2pm and from 5pm to 7pm.
